Who has Hooker 1 7/8" Longtubes?

So who in here has the Hooker 1 7/8" long tubes installed on their car?

How was the install? Was it a tight fit? Anyone have pics?

I did a search, but didn't find much info. Is this basically a "race" header?

Thanks!

If you're running stock cubes, that'll be too much primary. You may not acheive full gains.

1-7/8" is good for stroker motors.

You'll lose low-end and possibly even peak torque compared to 1-3/4" with them on your stock-displacement motor.

Best-case scenario is someone who makes a 1-3/4"-1-7/8" stepped header like LG Motorsports for the Corvettes with the longest collector that you can find. (32-34" or so)

a Friend around here (alamo nm) has them. I didn't get into much as far as the install, but the ground clearance is AMAZING!!!

I really had to get down on my knees and look for them! But as far as the primaries, 1 3/4" primaries is sufficient for a stock cubed LS1.

I have the 1 3/4 SC's. Great header, no clearance issues at all.

Does the driver's side have a slip joint? My LT1 HSC had a slip joint that was a real pain. And I switched over to PaceSetters, but had fitment issues. Driver's side floor pan had to be banged in, and then we had to cut and reweld the pass. side motor mount so the pass. side would fit.

Really crazy stuff, I don't want to go through again.

My y-pipe is welded up. If they would have needed all that work, I would have scrapped them. No banging or anything on mine. I have a rattle in the back of the car, but thats going to be something with the Borla.

I didn't mention anything to do w/ the ypipe. No problems w/ that. And there was no way I was scrapping them, b/c they were basically free

I just know I won't go the PaceSetter route any more.

Thanks.

Were you meaning where the y-pipe goes up to the collector?

No, the ypipe was not the issue.....one of the primaries on the pass. side was hitting the motor mount. The pass. side floor banging wasn't a hard issue to fix. But the motor mount was a b*tch. We had to REMOVE it, cut out a chunk of it, and reweld the chunk back in.

A thread w/ PICS can be found in the LT1 tech section.

Sometimes one of the primary tubes will have a slip joint on it to clear things like the steering shaft.....

ASM mids come to mind...as well as hooker super comps for the third gens..

Oh ok, I was thinking where the collecter meets the y-pipe. Come to think of it I have seen a kit or 2 like that, just never pated any attention to it.

Has anyone tried the Kooks 1&7/8"-2" x 3&1/2" headers yet? I don't suppose they'll make much sense on a bolt-on car, but maybe around 600+ rwhp you might see some gains...
