whistling noise

When driving my camaro some days my engine will make a whistling or whining noise when accelerating. At a stop light I will put my camaro in neutral and rev the engine and it will make the noise. The thing that gets me is one day it will make the noise and the next couple of days it wont. It seems weather dosn't affect when it shows up. it will be raining one day and make the noise and couple days later it will rain again but no noise. Any Ideas? My camaro is a 2001 Z28 LS1 45K 6 speed no mods done to the car.

My 99 M6 Z28 does it but it has constantly done it since I have owned the thing...Really bad alt pully. Every now and then I get people asking if it is supercharged, so it is kinda cool!!!

Probably something on your accessory belt if there's no codes.

I had the same issue a couple of years back, it got so loud it really did sound like a supercharger.....I'm very annoyed by those sounds so i quickly fixed the problem, turned out to be my alt. pulley.

^ Sounds about right.. But it's my constantly overheated PS system that does the whining..
