whirring sound on startup?

Every now and then when I start my T/A it has a weird whirring sound...not an air-like sound but like some electric motor operating louder than usual. This only happens every now and then and it stops after a couple minutes of driving. The frequency of the sound doesn't change when I give it a little gas so it seems it's not something running off the belt. What the hell is causing this? I live in warm weather if that matters and the engine is pretty much stock w/ 43K miles.

it's probably your air pump. it's located behiind the driver side head light.

pull the plug in the fuse block under the hood and see if that stops it. you will get an SES light but if it goes away you'll know what the problem is.

So does this mean it's screwed up and needs to be replaced or does this mean I can just yank it out? I can live with it for now unless it's really necessary to replace. I'll be ditching it anyways in the next 6 months for headers.

well for now you can live with one of multiple things...the sound.

or the SES light if you remove it, which will require blockoff plates.

you can just pull the fuse that should keep it from making noise, but it will also throw the SES light
