Whine from under the hood, alternator?
Whine from under the hood, alternator?
I have this higher pitched whine that seems to get higher pitched as I give it more gas. It is not really noticeable, unless I am really listening to it. Is this the alternator? It sounds real similiar to a supercharger. WHen I let off of the gas, and push in the clutch, it lowers in pitch, kind of like spooling down. If this is the alternator, is it a sign that it might be going bad? I was curious, I do notice that sometimes my car doesnt start right up, not sure if this is related.
Many fbodies are known for having squeaky belts. Check that out to make sure. As far as a whine, I think it could be a couple things. Altenator maybe, but how's the charging and the voltage in the car? My buddy had an old '80 something Ford, it whined a faint bit before the water pump went out.
The accessory belt slipped off about a third of the way on my car and did the EXACT same thing you are talking about. I wish I had a supercharger. I had the sound until i put the belt back on right. Look at the belt and make sure it hasnt slipped off any pulleys.

Seriously though, someone on this board didn't know too much about cars (think it was an LT1 guy though) and didn't know his car had a 383 stroker. Granted, it's all internal, but hey ya never know. Maybe if you got the car used there could be a supercharger in there somewhere
