Where to Start for Suspension

Iwant to upgrade my susension before anymore speed mods. Where should I start? I don't know enough about the suspension of a car in general to even know where to start. You guys obviously know so how about sending over some of that knowledge and help a fellow fbody owner out.
Thanks in advance!!

i'm in the same boat. I'm going to be getting the Level 1 Package that SLP offers, because its supposed to have stock ride characteristics, but still be able to pull .90G on the skid pad. it runs about 600-700 dollars. replaces everything except the rear swaybar. Also Sub-frame connectors I heard are a must as with a Strut-brace.

The SLP Level 1 kit is a bargan, and handles pretty darn good. I had it on my T/A. I would suggest skipping the "optional" boxed LCA's as they have poly bushings, which are inferior to the 1LE LCA's with the 70001 kit. Poly is subject to binding up on a handling car, and are more suited to drag racing.

As for where to start, that is simple. SHOCKS. The stock schocks suck. If you are going to swap springs I would suggest doing it at the same time as the shocks. After that sway bars. A really good handing setup that offers stock ride height or 3/4" lowered is:
Koni SA shocks with springs on lower perch (3/4" lowered)
1LE front springs
stock V8 rear springs with rubber isolator removed
35mm ST front sway bar
21mm 1LE rear sway bar
LG Motorsports aluminum LCA's with rod ends
LG Motorsports steel rod end PHB
LG Motorsports torque arm (optional)
Subframe connectors (yes I would put them this low on the list)

Forget about the STB.

Here's what I've installed so far, BMR, stb, tubular lca ( poly/rubber ), adjustable phr, front and rear sway bars w/poly end links, tunnel brace, Bilstein HD shocks in the rear ( I will be installing Bilsteins in the front also ), I also have double diamond bolt-on sfc. My car came with lowering springs, it's about an inch lower then stock. About the only thing I have planned after I've installed the front Bilsteins is a Edelbrock torque arm, and maybe bolt-on reloction brackets. There's a ton of choices out, good luck with what ever you choose.

Thanks for the help all. I guess I'll start with a stb and some Bilsteins and go from there.

i would say pass on the stb, i hear a lot of people say they do nothing. ie: tested them on a skid pad and made no difference what so ever. save your money for something else. that just my $.02 though

I went with SLP's Level One Suspension Kit also. You'll notice a difference right away, it was money well worth spent!

SLP level 1 is perfect for a street car,not too harsh, but still stiffens up the ride. That along with SFC should give you what you are looking for.

Ditto what stew says.
Two things about SFC's, one, you will feel a difference, it'll make your car torsionally stiffer, that does help. The second thing is that in the long run, your car will develop far less squeaks & rattles with SFC's. 4th gen f-body's have a LOT of body flex, which causes squeaks & rattles. I wish I put the SFC's on my 93 a lot sooner, that's why I put them on the 2001SS immediately.

This sounds like the package to go with.

BUT! I noticed that the package comes with Eibach springs. Does anyone know if they are progressive rate? I have heard some negative feedback on Eibach springs here (perhaps the pro-series?).

Reason for the question. I have heard some good things about Hotchkis progressive rate springs. I would prefer to buy each part separately for the better "street" suspension.

Just looking for more details on this package. Thanks for the feedback all.

i started with sfc, and a stb. I just got my ST swaybars installed, next in going to get some koni sa shocks and the spring, bracket, and panhard bar package from thunder racing. after that will probly do some more power mods, but down the road ill probly do upper/lower controle arms.

BTW the first thing i did was a STB and i could realy feel a difference, well worth the $90 bucks.

Talk to Sam Strano at strano.com, he'll give you all the details regarding springs & shocks. Sam will give you the pro's & con's on different spring & shock setups.
