whats wrong with my transmission? HELP

ok first off, when i wake up in the morning and go out to my cold car and put it into reverse it takes me about 2-3 minutes of constant pushing on the shifter to get it to go into reverse. Also, when i race i miss 2nd every time.....not because of me, but because no matter how hard i pull back on it out of first it just wont go into second gear (at least not for a second). the third noticeable thing about it is when im just driving normal, when i shift (at normal everydady rpm driving) there is a noticeable hesitation when shifting from almost any given gear to the next. Like it doesnt want to go into the next gear for a second.......What is this problem? i know nothing about transmissions. thanks

i dunno, but ive got almost the same thing, minus the hesitation anyway. I'm going to be taking it in as soon as the snow here melts.

I'm not a transmission expert by any means, but it sounds like the synchros are going (or gone!? ). AFAIK, the synchros are to help line up each gear and make them engage smoothly, but I don't know if their intent is mostly for on-the-fly shifting, or if they'd have any effect while trying to engage into gear while stopped (ie: your problem getting into reverse ). How many miles on your car?? If they're getting high, chances are things are getting worn out inside the tranny.

HTH .
