Question What's the highest lift you can have on a Cam on stock pistons?

I'm just curious what the highest lift on a cam you can go is on stock pistons w/o having clearance issues.

If you order a cam, they will usualy tell you if there will be conflict. Most of the time in lift retainers and valve springs are the main worry. Stock ones can only go so far.

There is a little more to it than just "max lift". Timing and valve size also plays a role. A buddy of mine has a comp 224º/.581" cam with stock pistons/heads. A number of people have had great results with the F1 cam in an otherwise stock long block, and it is .591" lift on the intake side. If you are waning an all out cam for a stock longblock, I would look at the F1. After tuning at AMS a large number of local cars at putting over 400 hp to the rear wheels with a cam and bolt-ons (stock heads/rotating assy)

Where can I take a look at this F1 cam? What's the website? Also, would everything clear with a 224/228 .588 112 lsa cam on stock heads and bolt ons?

So i'd be ok with a cam with specs 224/228 .588 112 on stock heads with bolt ons? How do you think this cam would perform? Also, would this cam do good with spray?

Devon, you just talk to Brian (with the silver Mecham Z29) some time. He has an MTI T1 cam with pretty much all the bolt-ons, a 100 shot and stock heads. He's gone 11.80s @118-119 quite a few times N/A and he's gone 10.8X @ 125-126 on the 100 shot so his setup is working pretty damn good IMO. He's on SFFBA quite a bit, so send him a PM if you want. His SN is BrianC.

Sorry, the F1 cam is from FAStech. Not sure if they have a website or not.

I know him, and his setup. It is a pretty sweet setup, but I want something more radical! I love the sound of a lumpy cam, and I want something that's gonna give me 400+ rwhp on stock heads, and then when I get heads, it'll be even better! Oh, and thanks for the link!

More radical huh? Well, if that's what you want then definitely look into the F1...or the MTI X1. They're nearly indentical:

F1: 230/226 .591/.569 112lsa

X1: 230/227 .591/.571 112lsa

Ok, well:

1. Will those cam's be good for spray?
2. If not, what is a good radical cam that's gonna put down big numbers N/A, and is also good for spray?

At first whatever cam I get will be on stock heads until I have the money to get my heads PP. Then after the heads will come the nitrous! So what do you guys suggest?

Thanks guys!

Speektek sells the F1 cam. They are a sponsor at ls1.com. And you cannot tell if a cam will clear by those specs. They are other variables like LSA and advance. The cam maker should be able to tell you.
