Question Whats the best oil to use in my ride ?

I used Valvoline synthetic in my 00 civic si b/c it burned Mobil 1 too fast. Whats the best weight and brand of oil to put in my 98 z28. I'm not sure if synthetic has been used in my car. If not with 102,000 miles would it be ok to go synthetic ?????

I am not sure synthetic is good with 102k miles, but I know mobil 1 is one of the best.

Not sure if such thing as "the best oil for my ride" even exists...

Everybody usually like the one they are using. Usually found through trial and error.

I used Mobil 1 in my LT1 from 74K to 114K (sold it @ 114K) and never had any problems with consumption. Didn't know what kind of oil was used before.

So, change to synthetic (my choice is Mobil 1, but there are others, too) and if it doesn't work well enough for you, try some other brands and if they don't work, then just use regular dino oil.

I use Mobil 1 10W-30. Never had a problem with consumption, and even after being in a motor with 75,000 miles, it comes out at a pretty nice color. It's time to change the oil again, as a matter of fact. And I use Purolator Pure one filters.

about 50% of the members here use Mobil 1... most say 5W30, like the vettes get from the factory.

Rest are split between amsoil, royal purple, and generic dino stuff.

Its all about preference. I run the Mobil 1, because it is what the vettes got, and I have had no problems with the car burning it. (altho i only have 27k on it) Its also easy to find, and one of the cheaper full synthetics when walmart has the 5 gal jugs on sale.

hey I am new here, but I have been around oil for a long time. If you don't burn/leak oil then synthetic will work great, but if you do, running synthetic will make it worse. Eirher way a 5w 30 or 10w 30 will work.
hope that helps

P.S don't ever go to jiffy lube unless you are in need of new oil pan or motor.

10w30. You want the least difference between the two #'s that you can get. You also want to run the lightest oil that will still maintain acceptable pressure. ~30psi at idle. Heavier oil will burn less but will give less lubrication when starting. Synthetic is best. You can get an Amsoil membership and buy it alot cheaper that way. And don't use Fram or other cheap filters! Wix, Amsoil, Mobil 1...

I think it says to use 5w30 in the owner's manual?

If you don't have any oil leaks or oil consumption, use full sythetic 5w30.
