What Is Wrong With My Track Times?
What Is Wrong With My Track Times?
See sig. for vehicle details.
I took the car to the tarck last Wednesday, 50+ degrees. I ended up running the following times
Pretty much a 12.39-12.45 1/4 time. The real kicker is the 1/8 MPH and the 1/4 MPH. My 1/8 MPH was 88-89Mph. My 1/4 MPH was 110 all day long even when I ran 12.6-12.8. Shouldn't a 12.3-12.4 be faster than a 110 trap speed. I am running a 3:23 rear gear and Eagle F1 tires (275/40/17). My 60' times were between 1.85-1.95 (not to bad for street tires).
So, what can cause the car to pick up only about 21MPH the second half of the track? I was wondering if the person who did the programing of the car didn't put the converter into lockup at any point? It is a small 2800 Stall. The question is what happens if I put a 3800 Stall and a set of Nitto Drags on the rear. Does that get me a 11.9?
Thanks for your help!
Bill

Re: What Is Wrong With My Track Times?
That's about right for an auto. You won't turn the MPH that manuals will if that's what you're expecting. Friend of mine went 12.45 @ 108 I think last year in his cammed A4. You will lose a little top end with the stall, but it's not nearly as much as you gain out of the hole. I say be happy with those numbers.
BTW - Get some DR's and you might take .1-.2 off your time.

Your tune might not be that great, you should be trapping above 110 with a heads/cam.

"Full Alpine Sound and Video System"
It's all about the weight ... you're not just slow on the back, you're slow all the way down the track. A H/C car should be running 92+ mph in the front.
Also check your shift points - with that cam you should be shifting at 6300-6400 - and eliminate TQ management.
