well do a cam swap. to something big. upgrade your heads, port and polish some LS6 heads. LS6 intake for sure. bigger injectors. put in forged crank, pistions ect ect. make your compression ratio like 8 to 1 and put a high psi supercharger on it. big intercooler. long tube headers. upgrade all your suspension, put a stall in and beef up the transmission and rear end. subframe connectors and a shock tower brace. have someone tune the computer. that should about do it. you could probably put that car together for around 30 or 40 g.

this LT1 car would get it in the 1/4 for sure. http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=282585

look at the project vehicles. that would give you some idea

You could do all of the above or a twin turbo with fuel and tuning, 12 bolt and CM driveshaft = Viper killer.

Re: what would you need to beat this car?

About a month or so ago I "raced" a Viper SRT10 on the highway. After him on my but the whole way through town, we both entered the highway. We proceeded with caution past the first Uturn where the cops like to hide after that I punched it. He let me do my thing and he stayed back. I was over a hundred when he decided to catch up to me. He got next to me in the middle lane and I downshifted and punched it again, but this time I didn't get ahead of him. He stayed right next to me. Then he looked over, smiled, and took off like I was going backwards. I just laughed and slowed back down. Nothing I could do. I wanted to call the bank when I got home to get whatever funds I needed to build my car up to beat that Viper. I seen his plate was a dealer plate and I said to myself, "at least I own mine". Check it out if it still on the website, www.queensburyautomall.com . I want to buy it but I think they want $70,000 for it. Way to much for me.

Re: what would you need to beat this car?

You shouldn't need that much to beat a stock Viper. if you have an 01' with the LS6 intake your even better, so converter(3200), gears(3.73), long tubes, drag radials, nice exhaust setup(spintech offroad pipe for the LT's with a decent muffler with cutout), you should be in the mid to low 12's no problem (with an auto car). I have seen a 01' Z28 with converter, 3.73, and drag radials running 12.2's all day long here in Florida. I don't see why with those mods I listed that you couldn't hit 11's on a good pass but that may be pushing it. With the cam, heads combo alone most LS1 cars are low low 12's high 11's. You shouldn't have to dip into the internals (shortblock) of the motor at all just to outrun a viper, the stock shortblock holds up quite well. All the mods listed with heads cam, suspension, you talking low 11's-10's

unless you had upwards of 430 rwhp, you would get walked on by almost any stock new viper on the highway.

its a totally different thing....i could PROBABLY beat a brand new SRT-10 at the track (theres no way they can put all that power down on street tires on the launch).I have beaten a 450 hp 2001 Viper GTS at the track.

on the highway however, i wouldnt even try. drag racing is about torque and traction. on the highway however, its all about horsepower.

Re: what would you need to beat this car?

Your best bet would be a decent verter, boltons, and nitrous. If it were up to me, and that was my goal from scratch, here are the exact mods I'd do:
To me, you could probably pull off 360rwhp-370rwhp through the stall, and a good 500rwhp+ with the spray. You would walk him, but how much I guess it depends on the driver. Some of this stuff isn't necessary FWIW.. but If you wanna do it right, I'd follow the list.

~3200 nitrous convertor ($600)
Transmission Cooler ($75)
100 or 150 wet shot w/ all safety options and timing box ($1000)
longtube headers w/ ypipe ($500)
ls6 intake ($350)
mild cam (224/224 114lsa) ($350)
comp 918 valvesprings ($150)
hardened pushrods ($100)
Decent tune ($400-$500)

Peace,
Josh

You can do whatever you want, it'll still kill you on the top end.
