what is this tube for?

what is that tubing for that plugs into the air box on the right side? not the air temp sensor. it looks like it draws in air from the stock box, so i hooked it up in a similar fashion with my new ram-air box. is it needed? will bypassing it improve/degrade performance? thanks alot guys.

It's the inlet line for your A.I.R ("smog") pump. Leave it connected.

When I bought a 01'-02' lid on accident for my 00' car, I coudlen't figure out where to put this extra hose. I just mounted it facing upwards a little so it wouldent catch any rocks or anything else, and put this little air filter on the end of the hose. Works fine now.

Another wonder of GM engineering as to why they decided it was necessary to get air from the airbox for 01&02.

I'm actually thinking of cutting the hose and installing a breather filter closer to the smog pump as the hose is rubbing the hood a bit due to my Volant airbox base.

I put a breather filter on the AIR pump hose and ty-wrapped it to the radiator shroud. But, it looked out of place.

So, I cut my hose and put the filter down by the AIR pump itself. If you want to do this, don't be shocked when your breather filter doesn't want to fit. The AIR pump hose is slightly larger by the air lid than it is by the pump. (or was it the other way around? )

Either way, it wasn't an exact fit. I either sanded the inside of the hose to make the filter fit, or I ty-wrapped it tight to snug the hose to the filter. But, it's out of sight and nobody can see this "extra" hose flopping around.
