Bill,
Congrats on the new purchase! You're going to have a lot of fun with the car. The best bang-for-the-buck torque converter out there is made by TCI. We've tried five Vigilante converters, six Yanks, and now TCI. They're holding up incredibly well, and the performance is awesome! We're running a 3,800 stall TCI in our '02 SS shop car, and it has produced a best 60' of 1.55 naturally-aspirated and 1.44 on the bottle. We have a customer with a 4400 Competition TCI converter in his '02 SS with stock internals, and his car will consistently 60' in the 1.58-1.60 range. The car has run 11.80's with stock internals! You can check out the full line of TCI torque converters in the transmission section of our website. Feel free to give us a call or e-mail us if you have any questions at all. We'll be glad to help you pick the right one for your needs.
As for camshafts, do you have to pass emissions or just a visual inspection? We have quite a few camshafts to choose from that make some excellent power. We can match a converter to a cam for a great all-around package. Just let us know what you're looking for in a cam and what the criteria is, and we'll help you select the proper one for your car. FYI, we charge $600 for a cam install. I've seen them as cheap as $450 and as expensive as $750.
Let us know if we can help!
Thanks!

thanks brian...yah in nj they are really leaning toward strict emissions...they have the dyno and all and they do make quick visual underhood inspections. So yah id like to keep it so it passes the sniffer. I dont want to go to radical with the converter nor cam but id like to lay down low to mid 1.6's a set of drag radials and hopefully get up to around 350hp at the wheels with the cam & some free or next to free mods. How long do cam installs usually take on these cars ive heard as little as 4 hours is this true? Also can you jsut change out the cam? I know slp is selling their cam kit...which comes with new springs and crap but thats also not street legal per say. Anywayz Thanks for the info.
