What are some common things that cause SES?

We don't have inspections in Michigan, so that won't work.

Yes and the Predator will tell us exactly what the problem is. It doesn't just give code numbers.

Well, we had a bit of a thaw today, so I drove it to AutoZone. It read the following code (they gave both the code and the description; I matched the code to Kraest's list and the descriptions match):

DTC P0128
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature

So maybe my thermostat is going, and maybe it was just a cold day (it was).

Either way, there is probably a 160-degree thermostat in my future.

P0128 is pretty rare - luckily tstat, ECT and IAT aren't expensive. www.gearchatter.com/viewtopic9378.php

That code means that the water stayed too cold for the amount of time that the engine was run. Could be that thermostat stuck open or that the ECT sensor is bad. Might be a fluke and never happen again. Sometimes these computers hiccup.
