What should a used O² sensor be ? Tan ? Black ??
The few I have pulled out have all been tan in color on the tip - like a spark plug.
This one was black - like it was carbon coated.
I assume this indicates a rich running condition - caused by misfires , perhaps ?
Also, can these things be cleaned, or are they a "one shot wonder" ??
Thanks !!

I am curious to this too.....mine were tan when I had a stock exhaust but after the heads and cam with longtubes the sensors have become black....is this related to the fact that I do not run cats? I know I am running rich so I am sure thats part of the problem.

if they are tan that is a normal o2 sensor.like you said just like a spark plug.if it is black then yes it is running rich but its probably because the sensor was already bad.you should go ahead and just buy all new sensors.
