What should I look out for?
I am currently looking to purchase an LS1...
What should I be looking out for as far as engine/ general drivetrain problems?
I know the 3rd gens pretty good, but the LS1 is an entirely new world for me...
Any advice would be appreciated. I am going to go look at a
'99 Z today, so the sooner the better!

I'd check for oil leaks and the obvious stuff. check if the SES (service engine soon) light is on. Test drive it and listen for noises. See if they've done a lot to it and ask why they are selling it.
