All dyno graphs, and data I have seen on this issue have showed the LS1 making more torque at all points: RPM vs. same RPM when compared against an LT1, all things equal.
The LT1 does however "Feel" much meaner down low.
I have owned two LT1 cars and can vouch for the low end feeling of those cars.

EVERY normal(non-heavly modded) LS1 i take off the line, no problem.. and i have wheel hop. happens on the road, happens at the track.

I *think* the reason the LT1 feels so much stronger down low is throttle response, and not real power. The twin 48mm blades will provide crisp response compared to the single blade 65 the LS1 uses.
And I also think that plugs are easier to change on an LS1, and that the LT1 sounds 100% better.

Rob, ONLY 50 pouds? Have you ever tried to remove 50lb from your motor? Also, he said diff in perf, I take that means all perf. The motor sitting back helps the distribution for autox and road racing.

I am confused as to how the LS1 motor sits further back...
Maybe lower in the engine bay, but they both Hug the firewall pretty close.

As far as the engine sitting back farther . I dont think it is back far enough to make any difference about anything . I could be wrong , but It isnt back much farther at all .

My LT1 car had 3:23's in it with a six speed " its a 95 " It had supercharger on it before I owned it and that thing still ran a 13.92 with 3:23's on street tires BONE STOCK ..I was a shfting fool in that thing though . So , yeah , LT's can still put down the thunder. 13.6 is respectable .

FWIW, the best 60' time I ever got was running on my street tires, with the 4.10's, and after doing a burn-out with the linelock, and I got 1.92
. I really need a stall converter, 'cause I'd probably be cutting ~1.6's - 1.7's!!?
(guessing
).
