What lid will give me the most performance? What filter, if any?

they are pretty much the same as far as performance goes. the slp looks good, fits well and is pretty cheap which makes it a safe recommendation. as far as filters... i read a magazine article where taking the paper filter out completely only picked them up .01 seconds in the quarter mile. obviously, with the filter not being a point of restriction, i would recommend a filter that filters best- which would be a paper one.

i like my MTI lid. its worked wonders for me. but i like the quality of the slp lid though. but like what teke said all lids are the same. but if you are trying to choose one go with the MTI.

as far as performance goes, maybe. fit and quality vary from excellent to poor.

peformnce will not vary from one brand to the next

what the main difference between the brands are the quality and fit. I have an SLP lid, I recommend you get that one. It fits great, looks good, and was under $100. Its plain black with SLP on the top of it, if you want something with a little more visual pop, look elsewhere. I always thought the clear lids looked cool myself.

How did GMHTP get noticable performance differences from certain lids?

most all were within 2 hp of one another. iirc, the whisper was the oddball and dyno'd lowest and was 5 hp (?) shy of the top runners. i've read a lot of complaints about the the whisper's quality, too.

If I remember correctly, a lot more showed up on the track than did the dyno sheet. I'm too lazy to go look it all up again.

I have the clear lid... everyone's always going "ooo, ahhhh!" when they see it. I'm like "It's just a lid, guys." But cool nonetheless and fit is top notch.

GMHTP also didnt notice any gain from SSRA, but we all know it helps, GMHTP seems to be partial to some brands, basically the stock lid blocks some of the air that could go to the throttlebody but with ANY aftermarket lid you will get the same results cause they all do the same thing, they all leave as few restrictions as possible.

There are some mods you can't dyno, like a cold air induction. It's an item that only takes effect at speed.

Thanks for your help guys. I will try and find a clear lid. So, is a paper filter better than a K&N filter?

Re: What kind of lid is better for 02 Z28?

they will both filter about the same... there is no power to be gained from an air filter.

there are some people on this board who swear the K@N filter is the spawn of satan.(psychocabage)

I have never had any problem with mine, but it does get dirty rather quickly with the SLP Ram Air induction. Most of the problems people encounter is overoiling their filter. The extra oil gets on the MAF wires and screws them up.
