What are good pads and rotors to switch to on 16" rims?
What are good pads and rotors to switch to on 16" rims?
Looking for some opinions on this one. I've got a 2000 Z28 A4 and I'm at my second brake change. I like to keep her factory appearance with the stock rims 16" 245/50. The rotors start to warp near brake change time so I'm toying with the idea of changing rotors. Any opinions on Power Slot or Power Stop rotors, and slotted versus drilled. Also need some opinions on good pads, semi-mettalic or carbon ceramic? Thanks
Re: What are good pads and rotors to switch to on 16" rims?
if you're getting warping...upgrade the rotors.
i would look into the Baer OEM upgrade kits, they come with the 2piece front, one piece rear rotors, and Hawk pads matched to the rotors.
i think thunder racing has them, they or someone else was doing a GP on them recently. kinda pricey but they are good pieces

Crossdrilled and slotted are driveway jewelry only.
Get some Autozone, Napa, Wagner, or Brembo stock replacements and put some good pads on them and you will stop every bit as good as if you went crossdrilled/slotted.
What you want to look at is the rotor weight and thickness. This is one area where heavier is better. The stockers warp easily because they are light and thin.
I'm running Wagner Thermoquiets. They suck at high speeds and when warm. I do not recommend them at all.

The problem is far too widespread in GM vehicles to claim it is something else causing the rotors to warp. They're too light & thin. Just over torque a lug or 2 and you have warped rotors on the stockers.

warping is to be expected with your stock units.. after that, hit up autozone and get the cheap replacements ($40 each).. Its only the fronts that typically warp.
Then just get the cheap pads and VOILA! You have full braking ability. woo hoo..
Slotted rotors = more pad replacements
Crossdrilled rotors = cracked unless they are done well.
Seriously, unless you are into autoX you wont need them and if you are that into AutoX then just go for bigger all around.

Unless you do serious autocross racing, drilled rotors are nothing but a visual mod. Drilled and/or slotted will chew through brake pads much more quickly also.
Re: What are good pads and rotors to switch to on 16" rims?
Drilled and slotted are nothing but visual if you are into any racing, unless you're doing it for lighter rotors in drag racing.
Larger rotor diameter, vents, and more mass is what you want, not holes or slots.
