Lightbulb what exactly is a "cut out"

I'm pretty new and learning as much as a can I my spare time about LS1's as I plan on getting a 00 or 01 Camaro SS around Christmas (00-01 SS's do come with the LS6 intake right?) and just wondering what a "cut out" is, seems it is a pretty standard action for everyone with a LS1 so thank you very much in advance for your help.

The purpose of the exhaust cutout is to bypass the remaining exhaust system after the point at which the cutout is installed. When you bypass the remaining exhaust system you are making it easier for the engine to get rid of the exhaust. Therefore, you will gain horsepower and torque by making it easier for your engine to work. The factory exhaust system is restrictive and holds back the full potential of it.

if you want the LS6 intake get an 01 or 02, they also have no EGR and AIR restrictions, plus they have a different truck carm giving them about 10-15 rwhp on the 98-00 LS1s. Since your new to LS1s a piece of advice dont post asking about the difference between a Z28 vs SS or M6 vs A4. These threads have been posted a million times and people will just mess around with the thread and you well learn nothing from it. My advice do a search on these things.

Well the video they have linked doesn't work, so is it saying you just cut a hole and leave it? Because I may be dumb and all but I'm guessing the point of this cutout is to avoid having to pay for a Y-pipe?

Cool

Cutout has really nothing to do with Y-pipe...

Cutout itself is a Y-shaped pipe which is usually placed in the I-pipe, right behind passenger seat. If you take a look down there, there's a nice little sopt over there. Just perfect for placing a cutout.

Some people have installed them to the Y-pipe, too, but it will be one VERY loud car , so I wouldn't recommend that for a daily driven car. Unless you get electric plates for them so you can control the sound easier.

Well... is that illegal to have it that loud because honestly I love loud thunder like, kinda rugged idling compared to smooth... So I'd probably do that if it isn't against any emission or sound laws or anything.

Alright, im just happy I can answer a question on here... A cut-out is a a little Y-Pipe that has a flap or valve or whatever you wanna call it so say you put it on your mid-pipe, you could put it on, and have one end of the Y keep going and it would sound just like it does now, but when you flip a switch (with an electric cutout) then it shuts off the exhaust going out the cat back, and just goes out the other end of the Y so it doesn't go throught your cat-back. Kinda hard to explain...look here

It is illegal to run open headers, but if you get the electric cut-out you can just close it whenever you want from inside the car and it gets a WHOLE lot quieter.

I appreciate the info guys, thx for the link camaro guy I'm so hyped up about gettin' this car, and I don't wanna double the price on everything I buy because of installation costs, so for the most part im studying hard to be able to do some of it myself w/ my friends. Look forward to meeting everyone, later.
