Saw this on a 00 Camaro SS add the other day. Hoping you guys could fill me in on what this is all about. Would this be something to steer clear of?


"The egr connections on the exhaust manifolds have been welded shut (haven't had a problem with inspection), and the black taped bulge by the oil fill is the connector for the air system that's been deleted. "

 

Both of those systems are used for emissions control. EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirulation. The other "black tape bulge" I'm pretty sure is refering to the PCV or pressure cotrol valve.

I doubt you will have any issues, but I would personally be a little cautious when dealing with a "shady tree" mechanic.

When he did away with the EGR he taped up the electrical plug that hooked to the valve, probably to keep it clean and short free.

 

Yep. That's what I would think, too.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Sounds ok to me.
