i always see people knocking the LT1 because it has 2 bolt mains ... but yet, we don't seem to be seeing LT1's fail because of it.
aluminum isn't as strong as iron. if you put 2 bolt mains on an aluminum block it will fail ... GM didn't come along and go "hey lets do 6 bolt mains because we feel like it"

i'm not knocking the LT1 your knocking the LS1! the LT1 was strong for it's time.face it aluminum is the way of the future.
go pick up LS1/LS6 performance book and read up on the LS1 and then maybe you'll see the light. do you know for a fact that is the reason why GM made it a six bolt main? because if not your talkin out your a**

you try putting a 2 bolt main in aluminum
its a fact that aluminum is not as strong as iron ... i really don't see why people don't see that.
however, not that i'm knocking the LS1 ... its obviously not a problem with a 6 bolt main, so that is how it was designed.
really i'm not knocking either engine ... i just wanted to point out that 6 bolt main vs 2 or 4 bolt main is not a valid argument when you are using two different metals
Re: what is the diff between an LS1 and LT1
Anasazi is correct as is everyone else in this arguement, as a machinist if you want something strong and durable you use steel or in this case cast iron,if you want something light and disperse's heat faster than anything else on earth you use aluminum, in a metal standpoint you techno geeks, but with aluminum you dont have the strength of cast iron hence a 2 bolt main, with aluminum you have to have a 6 bolt main because strenght is a factor, try this at home, lift and engine block with a 1/4-20 thread maybe an inch long into cast iron hunk weighing 500 pounds and jump up and down on it,now do the same with a hunk of aluminum with the same 1/4 20 screw tapped in aluminum and i bet it wont lift it,the thread will just rip out,i beleive thats his argument. but both engines are excellent, just both have different pro's and con's to them,Technology catches up sooner or later.. besides i have both an LT1 and an LS1 and i prefer my LS1 over the LT1,but both are very fast.

The only thing I like better about LT1's is the exhaust note. The stock exhaust is still very deep.
The opti-spark ignition and oil leaks will always keep me from buying another LT1. The L98, LT1 and LS1 are all sweet Mustang killing engines and each is awesome for there time period.

my LS1 sounds like ***

however, my old LT1 just sounded sooo much better around town ... more of an older more muscle car style sound.

WOW, can it be just possible to go just one damn week without three LT1 VS. LS1 threads popping out????
And to the original poster......use the damn search for pete's sake. Had you done that instead of making a new thread you would have had nothing less than 57 threads in the last 6 months making references to the whole "vs" thing. Next time just think about it also and use common sense. Technology, time, mistakes...and many more things contribute to better engines. I have an LT1 and will be the first to tell you that yes the LS1 is an improvement. The LS2 is even better. It will continue this way because that is the way of things. Pure an simple. Which one will end up being faster is only a question somebody who is going to keep their car stock would ask.

We shouldnt be too hard on people that are just asking for help or just curious and need a question answered...save it for the trolls...
I think its awesome that theres always new people showing up asking the same old questions....it means there are still people out there we need to reach, and develope their knowledge and interest in F-Bodies & cars in general for that matter...one of these guys might be a young John Force-to-be lol

I also think that if the screen name of the original poster wasn't SSHOTTIE, and was something like JohnsZ28 or something like that....that you guys would have been all over his azz worse than me. I have seen it happen with thread subjects that are far less common than the beat to death LT1 vs. ???.
Good ol' men, always thinking with the head that does not count.
