What can the dealer do for piston slap??

I still have plenty of warranty left, is there anything the dealer can do to get rid of the damn piston slap or do I just have to deal with it?

Do all LS1s have a problem with piston slap? I never hear it on mine.

Out of all the Ls-1s this is the worst. The 98, and 00 zs never did it....but the 02 is pretty "ticky". Is this something that will just hold long enough to void the warranty then cash the motor? I know of some Ls1 owners that have had motors replaced, but I think its quite a hassle to get them to do it. What are we supposed to do? On top of that, the car just went 13.2 in the 1/4, which means this is the fastest car out of the 3 diff years and I dont want a new motor. I guess Ill deal with it.

Dealer can and will replace your LS1...you just have to find a cooperating dealer. They replaced mines at 11K miles...and extended the warranty on the motor to 100K.

there are two things that a garage can do to fix the piston slap that i know of. one they could put a new motor in it but the chances of them doing that are slim to none. second well i don't think this would apply to you because i think i saw that you own an 02, but anyways if you owned a 98-00 camaro they could and probably would put the rings in it that gm started putting in the ls1's in 01 to correct this problem.

Strange, my '02 has 7K miles on it and virtually no slap on ly a little when it's cold, my dad's '00 Chevy truck with 30K miles and the 4.8L engine slaps like mad when it's cold but no much after warmed up.

The dealer will tell you it's normal......I don't know of anyone around here getting a new engine under warrenty for piston slap alone.

I am never taking my car to the dealer, I do all my own work. Just added heads and cam, so now I have alot of valve and lifter noise...which is normal for higher lift cams.

I think you should not worry about it, down the road re-build the engine, bore or stroke and get all fordged internals and a nasty cam!

That's my '02 cents

My buddy's 00 had piston slap that got progressively worse. The dealer replaced the motor and extended his warranty with no questions asked. Most dealers should welcome the warranty work. They get paid from the factory, and the customer is satisfied.
Dont wait till the warranty runs out!!

So, does piston slap happen in 98's?

My 98WS6 A4 gets very loud when only at part throttle around 200-3000 rpms. I have always wondered about this. I know LS1's have a loud engine but it bugs me. Makes me wonder if I'm about to throw a rod.

Thanks,

My 99 Z28 doesn't have any piston slap. The only thing I can hear out of the engine is the ticking of the valves. Sometimes I get some cracks but that is the exhaust and happens once every week or so. My car has 42K miles. Only thing wrong is the squeaky belt. I guess I'm lucky
