What is the best head and cam combo for me?

I decided to start modding my 2000 ss and leave my 94 z alone for a while. I have a lid and minor stuff right now. I am going to start by doing a head and cam swap. I have the lt4 hotcam and ported heads in my lt1 and I am very satisfied with it, I know they are two totally different cars, but I am wanting something on the order of that. Anyways would appreciate any helpful info. Thanks

What I'd really ask myself is... "How fast do I want to go, and what'll I be doing when I drive the car for the most part?"

It's not hard to make well over 400rw with a small HR.... not hard a-tall .

d'oh.. $2900 for 440hp is expensive when you could make 490+hp for near half that price

Well since someone asked a question that I was going to ask. I too wonder what will be good. I don't know a lot about upgrading but am willing to learn. I can fix a figher jet engine but can't do squat for my car.

Anyhow, my plans so far will definitely be a head and cam swap (if possible). My biggest concern is of course emissions as I do have a brand new car and need to pass the smog. It will also be a daily driver. I am looking for gains across the powerband. Or as much as I can get across it. I don't want to hurt my mpg anymore than I have to. I still want some practicality. Basicallly I am trying to find the best middle ground for both worlds.

This is still up in the air too but I might or might not put a Turbo or SC on it later on, but I have years to decide any of this but am doing my research now so I can have a solid plan.

Sorry if this seems very general but those are my plans. Any help would be appreciated. If anyone has done any of these upgrades, how much did mpg did you have to sacrifice? I might be able to stretch it to get some extra power.

For a daily driver, the best head and cam package would be 02' ZO6 heads and cam. Factory parts, factory warrantee and should make between 365 and 385 RWHP without custom tuning. Should also pass smog regs with cats. JMHO. Cost about 3K installed with ZO6 complete heads, springs, rods, valves etc.

What about these Stage I or II heads? And since I am going to work on the engine is there anything I can do about the pistons? Any better ones out there. Either for N/A, Turbo or SC applications? Sorry for the noob questions.

Your going to be tearing the whole engine apart if you want to play with the pistons.
