Warranty vs LS1edit, powerprogrammer, etc etc?'s>>
Hey all. thinking about having my computer in my 02 WS6 tuned with a diablo handheld tuner. I am trying to find out if this thing will void my warranty, or in other words, will the dealer be able to tell if the computer was fooled around with, even if the stock settings are returned??
I know in fords they get a 605 code burnt into their ecm permanetly. Has anyone ever had their warranty voided with LS1edit, or one of the power programmers out their. this device supposedly plugs into the diagnostics port of the car.
any help would be greatly appreciated, looking to buy one of these this week if it is completely safe for me and the warranty.

My advice would be to get to know your dealerships service manager and ask him or she what's mods can be done and not have to worry about voiding certain parts of the warranty. The day that I bought my car the salesman asked me how long I was gonna go before putting a chip in it. Last weekend I talked to my service manager about mods and the warranty and he said Hypertech is fine along with a lid, filter, exhaust. Every service manager is different. Some are dicks and others are cool about mods. Whatever you do if something goes wrong the dealership,GM has to prove that mod caused the problem, problems. Also do you have a M-6 or auto trans? Only a auto trans will benefit much with reprogramming the computer so I've heard.
The tuner is the new Diablo sport tuner, or similar. It does in fact reinstall the stock tuning, but it doesn' t look like it reflashes the ram with new data, just reverts the settings.
I am just really worried that the dealer would be able to find something which proves that the pcm has been tampered with, whether by bit code or by physical evidence. Does the hypertech adjust air fuel ratios, and torque management etc etc??

I don't believe Hypertech messes with the fuel and air ratios. It's more for adjusting things such as if you have a auto trans the shifts point and firmness, the rev limiter, changed gear ratios and tire size changes. I wouldn't mess with the fuel and air ratio's. If your engine blew up the dealership cound blame the chip for making the car run lean, rich and that caused the blown motor. I personally wouldn't mess with the computer. If you want more power just add a cat-back exhaust and a airlid and filter. That's all that I'm gonna do with my new Z. If you ever want to do some serious mods then wait until the warranty expires and fire away. The computers in newer cars controls everything.

Straight from the "hooved one's" mouth....
but he's correct, if you can reprogram (or "flash", as the lingo goes) the PCM, then all your stock settings should be returned. There is no memory log for the aforementioned reset; therefore, a dealer won't be able to tell if you've done any reprogramming, unless you leave your Diablo program in there! BTW, yes, a reprogrammed PCM WILL void your warranty. 2 reasons: one, any modification to the PCM that takes away the factory settings can potentially produce a "cascade" effect of problems for the areas of the vehicle that rely on sensors and data to operate (air/fuel curve, A4 tranny shift points, exhaust gas temps/O2 sensors, coolant temperature sensor, MAF, etc...you get the picture). Winning that one will require expensive legal expertise...trust me on that one!!
Second, GM can argue the warranty you purchased was for the car they provided to you; not the one you have just "made" with your modifications.
Long story longer, get a programmer that will allow you to return the PCM back to the original manufacturer's settings, and you won't go wrong.
