Wanting 500 hp

Is there anyway to get 500 rwhp out of a naturally aspirated 98' LS1. I would like it to still be streetable. thanks

David

"Streetable" is a very subjective term. It is possible to get 500rwhp from a good h/c package on a full bolt on car with a good tune. I don't know if you consider n2o not naturally aspirated, but going that route 500rwhp is very attainable with a good cam on a 100-150 shot.

That is going to be basically impossible with stock cubes. Build a good 396+ stroker with good heads and a big cam and it can crack 500rwhp. As stated, streetable is subjective.

Another vote for a stroker!!!

It'll be next to impossible to do without.

I think it would be possible...I know that somebody made just over 450 RWHP with Thunder Racing's T-Rex cam on a full bolt on car. Stock heads though. I think w/the right heads and a tune, hitting the 500 mark shouldn't an issue. As for streetability, thats a whole other story.

Why does it have to be N/A? Just curious.

500rwhp is 500rwhp no matter how you make it. Bolt-ons + a nice (not too big...read: streetable) cam...and spray the sumb*tch. You should be looking at 500rwhp easily and probably close to 600rwtq, maybe more (N2O makes mucho tq).

Trying to do this N/A would be pretty expensive...and you want to keep it streetable so that makes it an even more difficult.

A 427 stroker could/probably would get you there (and might still be pretty streetable) but now you're talking a total price of around $15-20k. You'd most likely be able to do it for cheaper but if you have the local "Eddie's Engines" build it, I dunno if they'd stand behind their work.

you could get 450 real easy...just get MTI stage 2 heads, X1 cam, UD pulley, headers, lid, and your good to go.

while 500rwhp on a stock bottom end is not impossible it would be very tough to do naturally aspriated. one of our project cars is making about 460ish or so, maybe a little more haven't dyno'd yet, but the car runs low 11's at 122mph. trap speed and weight (3300lb race weight) calculations put the car at 468rwhp using

hp=(mph/234)cubed xweight there are other formulas and some put it higher than 468rwhp

the setup is FFHP stage 2 5.3L heads, FFHP Annihilator cam, Dynatech Race headers, LS6 intake, SPEC stage 5 clutch, Moser 12bolt w/spool and 4.11's, Ed Wright tuning(mail order) and we are running about 12.2:1 compression. Stock bottom end.
We run an open exhaust so most would not consider this a "streetable" setup, so if you added a good full exhaust you might loose 10-15hp.

Give us a call we can talk to you about your goals and help you get there, but it won't be easy or cheap.

I agree ! I am right there with you on the HP #s. My velle ran 12.4 @109 mph which calculates to 390 RWHP or 450 CHP.

What did your car run in the 1/4?
