(VERY) Noisy Belt

I have got the worst belt noise. It seems to only happen on rainy/ moist days. I squels immediately on start-up, after running for a about an hour or so it diminishes to nothing. I gets louder w/ higher engine rpm's. I can hear it with the radio on in side the car goin down the freeway. I bought this car used and have since put 2500 miles in about 2 months, bringing it to around 47000 miles. It had a slight squeek then, but seems to be getting progressively worst. Any ideas??? The dealer says it is a new belt, but hey, whatever. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I did use a search but I don't believe this is a tensioner prob.

Re: (VERY) Noisy Belt

I finally bought a new belt for mine today actually. My symptoms are nearly identical to yours. The squeal only happens when it's rainy outside and lasts for a good while (like today, I figured enough was enough to so I stopped by Advance on my way home). I believe it'll fix the problem, if not then the idler pulley is next. I inspected my belt about 2 weeks ago while changing the oil and it appeared to be fine but belts are cheap and simple to replace, wouldn't hurt to see if it's the cause of the problem.

I had your problem with my SS and a new belt fixed it. It was terribly loud at idle and got louder throughout the rev range. I got a dayco belt from advance ~$35 bucks and it fixed me right up. No more problems in almost 2 years of driving on this belt.
