Vacuum leak??

Ok I used to have a hypertech programmer and to make a long story short I had to have the car flashed back to stock form. For a while now after that I can hear the sound as if I have a carb, without an air filter. I have had people who ride with me ask what is that sound? Mostly when I step on the gas half way but its there. I also done the free egr mod, new exhaust, tb bypass. But this sound was before I done that. Could I have a vacuum leak somewhere? There are times when I step on the gas half way my car will sometimes feel like it's being held back by something, but if I hole it there it will kick in and run very well. I will be getting the program hptunner in about a month will that tell me if I have a vacuum leak? Can anyone shed some light on this ? Thanks for any help.

Re: Vacuum leak??

Sure sounds like a vaccum leak to me, does the car start hoping or shaking for a while until you get going? Id get that looked at but sounds very similar to a vaccum leak. You said it did this before the egr mod but you might want to check the o-ring on you intake where the egr plugs in just to be safe. You dont have an ses light on do you?

The car starts and runs fine, but I will check the o-ring tomorrow afteer work. It seems to be close to the firewall where I can hear it from in the car better then out of the car.But as far as running it runs good but just a little boggy sometimes. Maybe nothing but wanted to ask on here just to make sure I wont hurt anything. Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Vacuum leak??

if you had a vacuum leak, the car would very likely run like total garbage. the idle would move around like crazy and the car wouldn't accelerate too hard. a closed vacuum system is absolutely vital to keeping everything running right.

I can't explain the sound you're hearing but i know when i put that hypertech programming in my car pinged like crazy and ran like a heap....

...plus, if you had a vacuum leak, you'd likely be throwing at least one DTC.
