Using HYPERTECH
Using HYPERTECH
The first time i used the HPP, my battery drained completley and my chip got erased. I finnally got the chip reflashed, and i want to try to program it again. The first time, i accidently left my cell phone charger on and the radio on, my battery was dead in a half hour. What is the best way to do the hypertech without risking the battery going dead? Also, in the case that my battery starts getting real low before it is done programming, what should i do to interupt it that wont screw my chip up? Thanks
Boy, your battery must be in poor shape if it can't sustain enough power to run the hypertech and a few dummy lights for 20-30 minutes. I suppose you could always put a trickle charger on it while the programming is going on. I've never had a problem with mine.
Well, before you do anything - even before you put the key in, pull your e-brake up. This will disable the parking lights/head lights. That way they don't come on if it gets dark while you're doing this.
Make sure your radio is off, and anything else is not plugged in (cell phone) and off.
If you want to make sure it never dies, just get a trickle charger/battery charger. Thats what I use. The first time I programmed my '98 my battery died. Though my lights came on (e-brake not pulled), and my radio was left on. Same thing happened to me. I lost the programming, and it had to be flashed by the dealer.
It also died one other time when I was using the HPP. I made sure to turn everything off, and pull the e-brake.....it programmed fine, but after I waited 10 seconds to turn the car on, it was dead.
So........I'm sure I need a new battery, but to prevent the battery from dying, just a charger when your programming. I have, and not problems thus far.
Milo.

well first q? do you have an underdrive pulley? If not go by a reputable shop and ask them to check your altornater to see if it is putting out the right voltage or you can take it off your car and bring it to like autozone or somewhere and check it that way but i would say go by any reputable shop it will only take 3 minutes if that.
So, if you have any doubts, it's quick & easy.
They can also test the charging sytem for you in the parking lot.
When my original battery crapped out due to the positive post corroding out - thanks to an internal acid leak
- I discovered this while putting the HPP3 on !!
Fortunately for me, it had enough juice to finish the programming.
Other than that, I never had a problem w/ the HPP3 draining the battery during the ~ 10 minute download cycle.
Good Luck !

Yeah make sure you pull the brake, turn off your heater/ac, ad radio and close your door to get all the dome lights off and start it as soon as it finishes dont do somethin and forget about it like i did

Na Na... take it to discount autoparts, we have service to build customers for a lifetime!! We'll take your core batt. put it on the slow charger, clean it, paint it, and then put an autocraft silver label on it and good as new
not to mention we have lifetime warrenty, (as long as u have your receipt,or your in the computer) but our receipts erase after 3 days, and the computer "forgets" who you are after a small period of time. <---- used to work there
BTW All that info is false.... well sorta maybe
RTFM ---- Don't use the HPP with the car on a charger. Period!
The HPP looks for a specific voltage range. If it gets outside that range (high or low) then it will screw your car's computer and you have to get it reflashed.
I used to program / reprogram my car with the HPP all the time and never had a problem with the battery running down.
turn off EVERYTHING! If you've got the monsoon sound system, then your radio is pulling a pretty decent amount of power because of the amp.
Your battery should last longer than 30 minutes, though. Have everything checked out.
