Question Trunk opener mod..........

On your trunk open mod, I was wondering why couldn't I just put on the better, smaller spring? Why even piggyback the bigger spring? I did the mod, got the spring from Home depot and still sometimes I have to press the trunk button twice.

Any long term problems to just hooking the better, smaller spring and taking off the stock one?

Thanks

I guess you could try to substitute the spring, but I piggy-backed it like the instructions said (using a spring that looked like it belonged on the end of a door stopper chain?! ) and I have not had one problem opening my hatch since. Yet I think I had one of the worst hatches, since I'd have to release the latch multiple times even in warm weather to make it open. I think because of the factory GFX and the additional spoiler on the rear hatch adds a little more weight, so that's why I used to have such a problem. Considering it's winter and f'ing cold though, I haven't been having a problem opening my hatch on the first attempt every time now since doing the mod (as per instructions --- piggy-back the spring).
