Question True Horsepower of LS1 in F Body

I've heard that GM under rates the horsepower rating on the LS1 moters in the F-body to keep vette owners from freaking out. Is this true and if so, what are more realistic horsepower numbers. Just curious.

seriously underated. the 01's and 02's are making about 360 at the flywheel, the older ones about 10-15hp less, my 2000 dynoed 318 at the wheels stock, but it seems to be an overachiever for some reason, lucky me!

My '02 SS seems to be quicker than it should too, I've beat cars with more horsepower quite handily, lucky us I guess! Thanks, love these beasts, don't you? Later....

My '99 dynoed 293 RWHP (stock @ 6200 miles), and I haven't dynoed my '02 yet.

I have yet to dyno mine but most of the LS1s I have seen dynoed are making over 300rwhp. Some are a little stronger than others and they're making around 320-325rwhp.

I read an article in Chevy High Performance Magazine a few months back were they performed this same test. They measured a '01 Z28 with a six-speed at 318 RWHP and the A4 at 310 RWHP. The actual engine output of the LS1 (for both trannies) is supposedly in the range of 350hp.

Our 98 T/A put down 318hp/338tq with just a Whisper Lid. It currently has 85,000 miles and is still going strong.

Yup, that makes sense, since we share the same engine/tranny, only different airboxes, & exhuast systems, & minus alittle weight. Over at the www.corvetteforum.com most stock C5's have dynoed between 285-315 rwhp, w/ the newer ones in the plus 300 range.

Both are fine vehicles.

i have seen as low as 270 (98 TA A4) as high as 310 (00 SS M6) bone stock. my buddy dynos 340 rwhp abd 349 RWT with a lid, pace MAF, and GMMG in an 01 WS6. both the SS and WS6 were both over 15k miles, so well broken in. i have never seen a C5 vette dyno less than 300 rwhp (usually 300-320 depending on drivetrain and year), but they also have additional drivetrain loss (2-3% more) due to the IRS and i think tranny placement....not too sure, but there was a post in this tech section a few months ago if you are interested. nice beast the LS1 is.....
