True Duals

Hey I'm thinkn of gettin a true dual system probably starting with SLP tuned headers, those sounded pretty cool. But i havent seen an exhaust system made for a true dual system, how would i go about completing this? Also i was looking at if i didnt go true dual, than gettin GMMG chambered........from what I hear they are the best sounding exhaust out there.

Completely custom system. Search should yield some answers.

I read somewhere in forums that since LS1 engines are configured in such a way that a true dual system would not be the best method without adding a tube or something connecting both exhaust tubes to balance them or something like that.

the use of an H pipe is usually needed. I would just run the regular setup in lieu of ground clearance and weight

H or X pipes are not just for the LS1.

If you want a large single system check out a mufflex 4".

A true dual system can be done, and has been many times. I've got a link that I found on this site a long time ago................it's got some pics and sound clips of various F-bodies with true dual exhaust systems.

THE PROBLEM IS, in most cases, guys just end the exhaust before the rear end, because otherwise you have to try and squeeze 2 pipes up and over the diff. and the panhard bar where the factory exhaust goes, and I don't think it's really designed to fit 2 pipes (although I think it's been done, and a "crafty" exhaust guy CAN do it, it just takes time, patience, and close measuring?!).

True Duals are definitely custom though. You can't order them from any aftermarket company..............all you can buy are single, 2-into-1 systems. IMO, a single exhaust system won't flow quite as well as a true dual setup, but a lot of the good aftermarket systems actually DO flow quite well, so then it's just a matter of personal preference and availability of a good exhaust guy.

Hope that helps!

I have just received an email from gmmg claiming that their chambered exhaust sytem is a true dual system? email following -

Paul

The exhaust system is a true dual exhaust just like the ones on the camaros from the 60's. The price for the system is $700.00 and $150.00 for the optional oval tips. This price includes shipping anywhere in the continental US. If you would like to purchase the system please send a cashiers check or money order to the address below along with your shipping address, telephone number, e-mail address and the type of car you will be installing the system on. Once we receive your check we will ship your system to you UPS and I will e-mail you or call you with the UPS tracking number. Thank you for your interest in our system and please feel free to contact me again if you have any other questions.

The GMMG is NOT a True Dual system, but instead is a regular cat-back exhaust.

It has one 3" intermediate pipe which splits into two 2.5" tailpipes. True Duals have two intermediate pipes.
