Re: torque converter or cam?

I had an LT1 but I'm sure its not too different.

Hot Cam kit, headers and Cai picked up 40 rwhp. Went from 258 to 300 for $1000 parts and $1000 labor. Track time dropped from 14.0 to 13.3. Installed a vigilante 3000 converter and switched to long tubes and went from 13.3 to 12.70. $700 converter and $300 install. Dropped roughly the same time off my et for half the price.

Another vote for the converter first- vigilante 3200.

yeah...the converter would be the first thing...before the cam.

but make sure you plan the converter to the cam you plan to get.

i install the TSP 233/233 cam....it is an awesome cam, but i think with an auto...the conveter will really wake up the car

Re: torque converter or cam?

LS1s average about .5 sec quicker ETs from a converter. But like teke said, if you're still going to do a cam later plan for it.

With an A4 T/C first. The type of T/C you get will dictate how much cam you can put in.

Frankly for a 233, you should probably be up around 3500 or better to get the most out of the cam.

Re: torque converter or cam?

I would go with a Torque Converter first, but with the size cam you are looking to get I would go with a little higher stalling converter. Usually we like to stay above 3200 stall rpm when having a 230+ duration camshaft.

Correct, buy a converter for the cam you intend on using later.

3200 - 3500 stall, for sure. That's probably going to be my next mod. Hell, even with 4.10's, the car still bogs off the line. Gotta get those revs up. If you put in a cam, sure, it'll make more power, but it'll really fall on its nose off the line.

Re: torque converter or cam?

I'd say go converter first, but go bigger than 3000. I have a 4000 in mine and it behaves very nice on the street with normal driving

Re: torque converter or cam?

I Say match the converter to the cam & do them both at the same time if at all possible...if you get a 3000 stall & get that 233 duration cam your gonna have a mismatch...with a cam that large you should be looking at a 4200+ converter...if you just want the lope of a larger cam but a powerband much lower just get the hotcam or even a tr224/112lsa...i definitly wouldnt match what you want to get together though.
