Took the 02 Z28 down the track for the first time yesterday.

After starting out and getting a series of 13.7 passes, I switched my launching technique (inital rpms at 3500 instead of 2000, and having the clutch almost engaged at the launch. This netted me:

R/T: .204
60': 2.275
330: 5.953
1/8: 8.929
MPH: 83.07
1000:11.457
1/4: 13.595
MPH: 106.28

That was the best run of the night. I know the car still has more in it, I'm just trying to find ways to coax a few more tenths out without mods. All the car has now is a lid and shifter. And yesterday it was 85 and sort of humid. Any tips or ideas to improve my time just by driving technique, not mods. I want to get good at driving the thing before I start dumping money into it.

What is ur location? Air does play a big impact.

If you're looking for a few more tenths out of the car, I would guess ur first mod should be some tires. You're car is trapping a good enough ET to be a low-13, possibly even high 12s car. However, you're 60 ft seems to be what is holding you back.... 2.2 is struggling a bit. If you can cut a 2.0 60' on street tires, you'll be seeing low 13s all day.

Is the car bogging off the line at all? Us manual drivers have to fight with that vs. hooking up and track conditions all the time.

Since you're still stock motor, you should be able to clutch-dump around 3k RPM. Ease into WOT until you stop spinning, and if you don't spin just peg it right away.

Like I said, make your goal to cut a 2.0 60' and your time will take care of itself.

UPDATE:

Ran the car tonight:

3 runs in came up with a :

R/T : .015
60': 2.198
330: 5.823
1/8: 8.758
MPH: 83.70
1000: 11.260
1/4: 13.385
MPH: 105.74

If I just got to a 2.19 and its running 13.3's, theres definitely still something on the table.

Wait 'till you hit a cool dry day. You'll be shocked.

And the single best first mod session for better track times should be drag radials and a line lock. Those 2 things would have you on the high 12's.

With just a lid, given those conditions, that's about as good as you can expect. Like Al said... you're going to need some sticky tires.

Yep, definitely more in her! Work that 60' down to a 1.9x with some more practice and you'll definitely see some better #'s. Might need some Nitto DR's or something to help get you the traction for a harder launch though. Try riding the clutch out a little longer while getting down on that throttle hard on the launch.
