OK guys, I need new tires. My problem is, there seems to be soo many tires, and soo many different "best tires" out there, I dont know which to choose. Im looking for a high performance all season tire, 245/50 r 16. Im thinking of the toyo proxes fz4. They have these at the local les schwaab, and they run about 150 a peice installed. Im a student on a budget, so my question is for the money what can i get in this range that is the best? If I hae to order them, thats ok. thanks

I would go with the BFG KDW. Since your on a budget, I would also check out the Kumho Escta MX - these are relatively cheap and are supposed to be a great tire.

I have the BFG G-force KDWS 245/50/16. They are excellent tires too and mine have at least 90-95% tread left after 2 years.

 

I'll second the KDWS. I used 'em during winter break during 2 storms, 1 was a freak that I didn't see coming, made it home on unplowed roads with 2" of snow and traction control OFF. I hardly spun out, only cause I took a turn a little too fast, my own doing. Other than that, I made it through everything.

Yes...you can get KDWS's in that size.

 

Another vote for BFgoodrich KDWS. I have the KDWs on mine. With a Eibach pro-kit and 275/40/17 tires I ride like on rails, coin the phrase.

 

My buddy has those toyo's on his car (95 TA) and I wasnt all that impressed... seemed to have a bit of trouble in the slush, in spite of careful driving. They were about as good as my 3 season Bridgestones in the snow... that isnt saying much...

He got em through a Mfr promo (hes a mechanic) for 300 bucks, which is why he is running them

 

Wow, I have the same tires on my car, have about 18,000 on them and they are approaching the wear bar. I bought them back in March '03, rotate them every 3K, 3 passes at the track with them, never burned out with them.

They are GREAT tires though. Mine were $129 each on sale. I'll probably get them again unless I get a killer deal on something else.

 

Yokohama AVS ES100... no doubt.. hands down..

I wouldnt run a BFG tire.. Not too happy with them.

I prefer Yokohamas for the price and what I get out of them..

Nittos are not good for all around driving.. daily driving.. good for summer or track..

Yokohama AVS ES100's are good for all around.. Great for rain as well..

 

Maybe I'm the only one but my KDWS's suck.
I'm EASY on my car and I used 5/32" tread
in 5000 miles. Pressure checked regularly,
alignment good.

 

Kumho tires (in my opinion) are the best cheap tire you can get. I had a set of Z rated Kumho ECTA 712's and they cost $96 a tire (or $126 installed). They have excellent wet and dry traction, and decent wear. I'm running 18" rims now, but still use the Kumho tires. I've had bad luck with Bf Goodrich, but have nothing but good things to say about these.

Good luck whatever you choose. Also, if you're on a budget, check out the TireRack.com. They sometimes have very good deals for the $$.

I love my Bridgestones... Going to get 15-20k hard (read = autocross) miles out of them. I will probably replace them with the 750's, if i dont opt for for the yokohamas... gonna be a tough desision...

Only complaint is that the sidewall is so tough, that you cant lauch the car at the strip with these tires... only gotten a 2.1 60' with them... even after giving them a qucik spin.
