Tire Q?

I have an '02 WS6 I am planning on putting in the 12's tonite an TNT here in Memphis. I recently had to get tires cuz the F1's were getting way worn (my freinds call them the "bald eagles") so I wanted to chose a tire that would be good at cornering AND striaght line accellaration. The Bird went a 13.05 @ 110.4 on these bald eagles.

I took a chance with some Nitto 555R-II's. They are exactly like the 555R-I's but with a stiffer sidewall for road racing and autoX type stuff. They are still an R compound tire, so I am counting on that to help me hook.

Do any of you guys have these or know of anyone who has these tires. I already got them, and they go on tomrrow after noon, I just dont know what to expect...... 12's I hope!

I don't have them but was about to buy a pair of nitto 555R-I for my car. Let me know how the 555R-II work out for you. Maybe I'll get those in stead.

Are they more expensive or is price the same?

Good luck and hopefully someone who has them can chime in.

6$ cheaper than the DR's, still supposed to be good for 15K miles. I got mine from Discount Tire Direct, tirerack dont carry Nitto.

They will help you hook better, but not as good as the 555r DR. And you won't get 15k out of them with street driving. Tread wear is 100 which is the same as the DR and people barely get 10k out of them...

I only got to make 3 passes the other night (long lines), so I did not go a 12 yet. If the DR's hook better than these I am really surprised. I left on my last pass @ 3500 with a dump and it bogged a little. I just could not figure out where to leave. Next time I will try about 4500 and work down- if I need to. I dont know if it was the track or what but the bird has never hooked like that.

I would strongly recommend the tires to anyone looking to get around the sidewall flex of a DR. I dont drive my car every day so the issue of mileage might be a concern for some people.
