Tire life

Approximately how often do you change the tires on your car if your the type of person who really likes to leave footprints at stop signs.

I got 32k miles out of a set of GSC's with probably 4 or 5 burnouts. The old school rule of thumb is 1k miles for every burnout, so do 30 burnouts and you can figure on about 3 or 4k miles.

Depends on the tire, but the stock GS-Cs normally last about 30k miles. Also depends on how much "tire friction" at stop lights, etc too, hehe... I've heard of people burning up a set of GS-Cs in 5 months with 6,000 miles on them... but that was with the kind of driving that would burn up any tires in 6,000 miles

This is going to sound unreal

but it is true. No BS. I purchased my car (1994 z28), used, when it had about 41,000 miles on it. I bought it in August 1997 and put a set of bfgoodrich comp t/a vr4's on it within the first year.

I don't do major burnouts, but have "lit them up" on several occasions while taking off from a traffic light when the occasional ford decides that he needs some teaching.

Anyway, my car currently has just over 190,000 miles on it and I still have the same vr4's. They haven't quite reached the depth indicators for replacement.

I recently hit a 4x4x8 piece of lumber that fell of a truck and it popped the webbing on my front right tire. So I had to replace it. Also, I have never replaced the shocks/struts so you can imagine the abuse that my tires (and me!) go through.

I have had the luxury of keeping my car parked indoors, during the day in summers, so the tires have not dried out. I'm not quite sure what to say, but I got over 150,000 miles on a set of tires and still go'in.

Take it or leave it, but it is true.

For fair disclosure, I don't have any affiliation with bfgoodrich nor do any of my friends or family.

I suppose that I must drive like "poon tang," but I have been pulled over by "officer friendly" for lighting them up off the line from a stoplight (more than once) and I occasionally like to "slide all four" around exit ramps. I even caught an LS1 off the line after giving him the jump, but was only able to do so by smoking them bigtime in second (once we hit third, i didn't have a chance), so give me a little bit of a break. Okay?

Recently, one of my friends was talking smack about how great his bmw 3 series (1995 325i) is, so I decided to give him a treat to some American muscle and had may car squealing sideways all the way up to around 80 mph, then I finally got some traction. His comment from the passenger seat, in an almost spock like tone was, "wow, your car is significantly more powerful than mine." All I could do is grin and say "yeah."

I guess that I just don't really think the "poon tang" comment was fair. :-)

Most of my driving is highway, which I suppose is a little "tang," so make up your own minds.

Any other folks have experience with the BFG Comp T/A VR4's?

2,000 Miles or so on a set of BFG Drag Radials. =)

That includes like 50 passes down the strip.

Holy **** man! 150,000+ miles from a set of tires? I'm not calling here, but damn...you must have gotten the Ultra Secret Lab Test Special tires when you bought those. That would have to qualify for a world record I would think.

But seriously, not doubting what you are saying, but that's really hard to believe.

Ahh the difficult decisions of life

Leave footprint = new tires soon, no footprint = long lasting tire

Sure showed that stop sign
