Question Tire conversions

Does anyone know what size tire and rim conversions would accommodate me going from my stock 16"ers to 17's on the front and 18's on the rear? My only perameter is that I don't want tires that stick out from the wheel wells.
Guess I got the thought in my head from my Dad's '99 C5 Corvette. It has 17's on the front and 18's on the rear.

Thanks!

Dear Stik6Shift98,

Thanks for responding to my question about going to 17's on the front and 18's on the rear. I apologize for sounding dumb, but what does "35" mean? (besides being the sum of 17+18) ? ! ? ! ?

I guess what I was looking for was: what size rim (dimensions, like 17X7, etc) and what size tire (i.e., 245/45X17) would fit the front. And then the same info, only for the back with 18's (example: 18X9 wheel with 275/40X18 tires). Something like that.

My apologies, guess I didn't specify very well, did I ?

Thanks again for any help you can render,
Daryl

I know the corvette rims will work on our cars, they use 17s up front and 18s in the rear.

ok, my suggestion, hope it helps:

front: 17x9.5 wheel, 275/40/17 is the most used tire size application....this is the size on all SS's and WS6's if you want a reference on how they look.

rear: 18x....well, there are options here. You can go with a 9.5 inch wide wheel here too, but in actuallity, if it concerns you, the same width looks less wide in the rear. So, i've heard of quite a few people going with an 11 inch wide wheel in the rear. But, I've mainly only seen 17x11 in the rear, and don't know how well an 18x11 would fit considering I don't know what size tire do get to make sure there's little or no chance of rubbing.
for a 17x11 size wheel in the rear (if you're so inclined) would most likely use a 315/35/17 size tire i'm pretty sure.
back to 18 inch wheels; if you did get 18x9.5's, then i believe you would get 275/35/18.
and you could also look into getting a possible 18x10 or 10.5 wheel, but then i don't know about tire size to match and fit in the wheel well......

hoped this helped a little....

what i meant by 35 .....

there are 3 numbers in tire size 275/35/18.......
i didnt feel like typing so i just said 35 in hope that you would figure it out......

on the 17s up front id go 275 40 17
in back it depends whether the wheels are 18 by9 or 18 by 11
anyways the profile or middle number would be 35....

if you go with by 11 u can get 315....with 18 by 9 you can do 315 as well but it will have a lil overhang over the rim.....

hope that clears it up

tire conversion info...

Oh man, don't I feel like the total "idgit". I know what the numbers on the tires mean, it just didn't occur to me that that was what you were referring to. Uh hello?????

Am I to assume that given the drastic increase in the widths of the tires (both front and especially the rear) that the wheels are offset enough to not rub inside or out?

Thanks again for your insight and the info.... Sorry I brain-farted!
