throttle cable too long??

so i went through to do the bump stop mod.

scanned the car and found i was only getting 4.22v on the TPS using the pedal. max opening should read 4.6v or so.

however when i filed the bump stop down a bit, and tried it again, using my finger on the throttle body and it registered 4.4v.

however, when i used the pedal again, it still registered 4.22v. after closer inspection, the throttle cable (ie...pedal) doesn't pull the throttle all the way open

there is space between the bump stop thing...and the part of the throttle "cam" stop.

is there adjustment in the cable?
it's almost like you can't push the pedal down far enough.

HELP please

I would guess that the cable is probably stretched. As far as I know it's not adjustable.
How about an obstruction to the pedal inside the car??

Never done one on this model but it looks pretty simple.

No adjustment except maybe under the dash which I will look into tomorrow. Strange, my other cars had easy adjustments under the hood.

Replacement looks pretty easy if required.

Ghetto fabulous option: cut off a bit of the throttle cable, use a fishing weight of the proper size to keep it retained in the throttle body. But you don't have any fishing weights now do you teke?

Re: throttle cable too long??

yeah i do...but i'm not sure i'd be willing to trust that

just seems strange that the throttle won't open all the way

i stepped on the gas this morning and pushed it as far into the floor as i could. all it's hitting is the rug i think.

this is strange. and the other thing that makes me think it's not hitting an obstruction...and that it is almost set up to only open that much...is that on about 6 tries it only got to EXACTLY 4.22v

messing around with the throttle under the hood with my finger at least showed a .02 or .03v variation. however every time i used the pedal...it was exactly 4.22v

Wasn't your car flooded? (My condolences on that, BTW) Perhaps the fabric is still kinda swollen up from absorbing the water.

thanks

i pulled the rug and padding out, washed it and dryed it...it shouldn't be swollen.

WELL

turns out there IS an adjustment. about half way between the TB and the cruise control servo there are some junctions. they have "C" clips on them and allow you to take up some slack.

turns out there was about 1/4" of slack in the cable, i could spin the CC servo a decent amount (as if stepping on the pedal) before the TB would even start to move.

took up the slack in the cable with the connector, and BAM....it opens all the way to that throttle bump stop thing. i didn't check the TPS voltage, but i'm sure it's about what i was getting last nite when i opened it with my finger...around 4.40v.

so it's worth going and checking if you're cable is opening properly. have someone step on the gas and see if it opens all the way under the hood.
