Is there a secret to gettin traction on the street?

I dont streetrace or anything but on occasion i will get the stupid ricer who wants to race and i have to put him/her in their place.

But i was wondering....is there secret to getting decent traction on the street? I usually have to take off kinda light so i hook then i go for it and im usually still spinning the tires up to almost 40 mph.

Any tips or tricks that anyone wants to let me in on?

By the way my car is an A4, 2.73 gears

There's too many variables for "secrets". It depends on the road surface, temp, tires, etc. What you need to do is get more familiar with your car. That's what racing is all about. You have to know your cars limits. Traction is the most important limit you need to know. So, if you can't get traction, you either need better tires (get Nitto DR's) or you need to learn to launch. It's not as simple as mashing the gas and going. Just practice, you'll learn

...since we're on the topic of tires, how do the drag radial's handle rain if they were used as full time tires. So they suck? Or are they strictly dry weather tires only? Oh yeah and in my buddies a4 94 TA, he takes off by flooring a little, which locks the posi, then he stomps it.

depends on the type of drag radial and the amount of miles on them. I use nitto 555r's as a daily tire. So long as they have enough tread on them, they are fine. Once they get low, they are terrible. If it doesnt rain alot by you, you can avoid thruways and such at times in the rain, or you are real good with buying new tires as they get low, then you are totally fine using them.

as for traction, there is a whole lot of things to consider, like mentioned above. But a 2.73 rear a4 shouldnt have nearly as bad of problems as alot of us, maybe just experience driving and launching it would help. But you can also go for a better suspension, tires, practice, etc etc to help get that power to the ground

Some SFC, LCA's and the brackets can really help, like Antz97ZNJ said. And on the topic of ricers, they are just a waste of gas so I never bother with em
