I am looking to buy a 01 ws6 and when i test drove this car it felt nice and smooth and after i popped the hood and i could hear a knocking sound.The car was fully warmed up and it sounded slow enough of a knock to be bottem end related.It was not very liud but you could hear it standing in front of the car.The kid said it has done that since he bought it new.Is this anything to worry about i mean i know they are known for piston slap but i thought only when they are cold.Tell me that you think guys.thanks

i bought my 99 just as u discribed and about a month later had to have a new ls1 dropped in it... luckily i had a warranty.

 

One advice: move on.

Was it a knocking? Or more like a clacking?

Knocking, I'd probably look elsewhere.

Clacking, I wouldn't worry about it. At least with my car, I have a pretty clacky valvetrain (since day 1) and my car runs fine.

 

It wasnt fast enough to be valvetrain related i mean at first i thought it was one of the accesories doing it but i couldnt pinpoint it it was definitely coming from the bottom area of the engine and it went away when i brought the idle up a little.I am kind of weary about it but then again it could be nothing it really wasnt all that loud.

 

just get a third party warranty, and drive the bitch.
