Tell me this guy is wrong

This guy is a very reputable mechaninc and apretty good friend. He claims that my brother's lt1 with a y-pipe, no cat, flowmaster exhaust, k&n fipk, centerforce clutch and 4.10's will pull on my ls1 with 3.73's, slp heavy duty posi diff, shift kit, fresh tune up, lca's, and sfc's. If he is right what do I need to put a car or two on the lt1? I got a few hundred bucks left after this rear end rebuild....lid, ssra, catback, tq arm, panhard...in what order?

well lets face it.....with a six speed and 4.10's, he will probably pull you out of the hole. the problem will be running him down. sounds like you need some juice....a 100 shot should do.

He is correct, he wil pull you out of the hole, however the LT1 is known to fall on its face around 4K RPM's, you should easily be able to run him down on a quarter mile.

After you do this, make sure to ask him "If all your brake lights are working"

A torque converter changes that fall

pull you out of the hole assuming he can get traction. if he's on street tires and you can launch with any proficiency...you'll probably still be even.

you've still got more power, particularly in the top end.

probably be a driver's race.

lid and catback should put the odds back in your favor

I don't have the money for a Yank or Vigilante, what other converters are of good quality and give good et's?

If the LT1 had LTs, I'd probably agree...but it doesn't so I'd say you should win. Might be pretty close though.

4k? It's an LT1, not an L98. It should pull pretty good until about 5000-5200rpms.

That's what it will look like. That LT1 had 4.10's and a Hypertech tune for sure (may have had cold-air and cat-back too). Mine (left lane) had a lid, Granatelli MAF, lca's, and Borla cat-back.

I would look into the TCI converters. A 3500 should net you about .5 drop in the 1/4. Just heard back the other day from a customer that dropped just over .6 at the track after installing his TCI 3500. It makes a great street/strip converter. We have them for $524.99(+shipping).

Juice would be any overkill....but is there really an overkill
