Unhappy T-Tops and Armor-all

Ok im not Armoralling my t-tops or anything, but I do have two questions.....

1. I bought a 99 z28 with t-tops. When I purchased it the guy said the t-tops holders in the bottom of the hatch were broken. All that is in the hatch is two bolts on each side facing inward. The guys at Chevy had no idea what part i needed and cannot find anything in the computer. I have never seen what they look like, but I assume they have to have two grooves and maybe a lock? Is all I need two plastic peices for each side? Are there any other parts besides those? This may be a long shot, but does anyone have a part number stamped on the holders?

2. I've heard Armor-All is very bad for dashes and tires over time. Does anyone know of a safe alternative?

BTW....I have learned more about my car from this forum than anywhere else
Thanks, and sorry for the length

OK - what you need is not more than just two plastic "holders" for the T-tops. Chevy will charge you an arm and a leg - they don't even know the part number ? Well, sounds very expensive to me.... BUT there are a lot of junkyards in the U.S. and many people who crashed a Camaro, this T-top holder survives almost every crash so there will be many out there....also check EBAY... it's the same piece 1993-2002

Armor All ? I haven't heard anything bad about it so far - except the reflections in the windshield after you sprayed it on your dashboard....

Ya the guys at Chevy had no idea. I will be checking out the junkyards, and wanted to make sure that all I needed was the two peices. As far as the armorall, I've heard that it actually dries out vinly and plastic over time. Thanks for letting me know about the holders.

Yeah i would say check the junk yards. And for the armor-all, i have heard the same thing, its bad for the dash after time. I use Meguiar's products to clean my car. Works very good and is supposed to be one of the best. Hope this helps.

I think Ebay would be the easiest way to get them. They are two plastic pieces, the pieces them selves don't lock but you can lock the t-tops into them the way you would lock them when they are on your car. BTW- I find if very sad that the dealer doesn't know what part it is.

I have never heard this before. There are many brands of tire shine though. As for the dash I don't know what else you can do besides getting a dash cover which doesn't stick well when flooring it. Especially when your windows are down, the thing comes off and then you have a big piece of fabric floating around. While I am on the subject of things not to buy, don't buy a car bra if you have a SS hood, it doesn't look right.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad all I need is those two peices and not a million other things. Thanks rncotton for refering me. Amazing how Chevy couldn't tell me what you guys did. Oh well!!!

Thanks again

What if you didn't use armour all at all?

If armour all, isn't anygood, what if you just kept the dash, etc. clean by another means, like simple dusting or possibly lightly wet rag? I think this may be a dumb questions, but I GOTTA ASK IT. Never realized it was bad for a dash, and I LOVE TO USE IT.

I use a wet paper towel. Gets the job done fine, but I don't get the shine like Armor All would give.

Also, this is a GREAT question for Show & Shine. MikeLS or KevinSS should be able to answer your question. In fact, I remember reading about how Armor All isn't good for the dash over time in the S&S section (but I forget why).

T-top rails-ebay has them. Or contact www.fparts.us that is fparts salvage's website. They might charge you a little more for them though. As for the armor all, i have heard it can hurt rubber and plastic over time, but so will just about any other shinning product containing petroleum distilates.

Wink

I have used armor all for a long time in a few vehicles and never had any trouble on interior parts. However, I don't like to use it as "tire shine." I have also heard some people say it isn't good to use on the various rubber and plastic parts (hoses, fittings, etc.) under the hood. However, my opinion is it beats letting them stay dry.

For the dash, I prefer a non-glossy look. I bought a microfiber cloth at Autozone and it works great.

For tires, I use "Stoner's More Shine Less Time". You can find it at many auto parts stores.

armor all in the sun can hurt your dash and plastic because it is waterbased. if you want gloss try black magic if not try glass cleaner diluted with 75% water and dont use allot.
