Synthetic oil

I was told to change the filter at normal intervals and to change the oil after about 15 or 20 thousand miles.

What have you been told?

Exactly opposite. I have been told change the oil every 5-6 on a Mobil one filter, and change the filter every 2 oil changes. I just change both at about 4-5,000

Sorry, but I'll have to respectfully disagree with all of that for sure.

ALWAYS change the filter every time you change your oil.

My big question is how long to leave synthetic oil in there? I run Amsoil and their website says 25,000 miles or 1 year. But it doesn't say anything about changing the filter every 5,000 miles.

You may disagree with it but I have heard that myself as well. I've heard lots of things in regards to using synthetics. I'm really not sure what is the "correct" method.

I can tell you I change both twice a year which averages to about 3500 to 4000 miles.

BTW, is that 1 of 41 in sunset orange SS vert. ? Just wondering

Here's the deal guys. Running Amsoil change the filter at 6000 miles and add what is needed for oil. then change the oil at about 20,000 miles like is mentioned and proven by Amsoil. If running Mobil 1, then change both at the rated interval for Mobil. And it is always better to change the filter every time so the oil will stay cleaner and will work better. Any other questions ask, because me brother is an Amsoil dealer, so I have all the read-ups.

Thank you. That's what I was going to do.

And yes, there are only 41 2002 - SOM - M6 - SS - Verts.

That's exactly what you do. Unscrew the filter and screw the new filter on. Just the oil that is in the filter will come out. This will be like during a regular oil change, unless you change the oil with the car running then all the oil will come out due to the oil pump, pumping it through the engine and filter! Trust me I do it all the time.

What is everyones opinion of Amsoil? I use Mobil 1 5W30 now, and I was just wondering about alternatives. Where do you get it, and what type do you use?

I am a fan of Amsoil. I use the recommended 5W-30. It runs great and extremely clean. It can be ordered through dealers associated with Amsoil, whether local or online. Let me know if you're interested my brother is a dealer. Or to find out more you can go to www.Amsoil.com

You may want to go to LS1.com and ask patman.. He actually does oil analysis and I am using Mobil 1 based on his findings.
I will probably run 3500-4000 per change and do the filter at the same time regardless.. Unless on my next oil change it still looks pristine.. Then I will add 1000 miles until it looks dirty.. But judging how the original oil looked, it will be black.. ehhe

It actually depends how you drive & where you live. If you do a lot of highway driving & the conditions are not dusty then you can go longer between changes. If you're stuck in stop & go traffic &/or do a lot of short in town trips then you need to change more often. Plus it also depends how you drive. If you drive like an old lady then you can wait longer, if you drive like me more often. I change my oil & filter every 3000 miles with Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 & K&N gold filter (which is the same as Mobil 1 filter). The oil is the life blood of the engine, so think is a couple extra bucks doing oil changes every 3000 miles or so worth it to you or not? To me my car is worth it!

Mobile 1 10W/30 here in South Texas for me. Amisol looks very good too, but hard to get and ,more expensive. I will change it every 3K miles with filter till 10Kmiles. Than I will go a little longer 4-5k by then. All synthetic oils will tell you to change the filter according to your manual. Also, this will keep you with no oil/warranty issues. Change the filter at 4K and oil at 8K should be good too. Always fill the new filter with fresh oil before you screw it on the engine. LS1 and LT1 engines should have synthetic oil for better protection. They cost too much to fix not to insure it with better oil. And the way some of us drive , we like to test our engines on a regular basis. Later>>>>>>
