suped up camaro vs stock

hi, well my current situation i am in is i have about 7700, and I have been looking at a 1999 camaro z28 i could buy for 7500. It has around 430 hp to the wheels from what he has said(he is kind of a sketchy guy i am no sure how much i can trust his word). Which i cannot tell for sure if it does, because i have been in it but im not a car expert so i do not know how much that amount of hp would feel like. He also said his best 1/4 time is 11.4 is that possible with that much hp? Now back to my question i am wanting to know if you guys think i should buy this car or try to find a stock z to modify myself. If you think i should do the second option how many miles of a z should i try to find and for what price. Then what should i put in it to get the same or more hp stated from the other camaro, with my budget of around 7700. Thank you to whoever answers to help me.

It could definitely run that if it has that power to the wheels.

Get a COMPLETE list of exactly what's done to it and I'll be more than happy to dissect it for you.

Maybe that could help a little.http://tinypic.com/r/300smjk/5. Also thanks for the help

if they are pacesetters, ls6 or ls1 doesnt matter.

Ask him if it has any motor work done to it.

It has a stock air box, so that's making me kinda doubt the 430HP at the wheels.

Does it have a cam in it?

um i really dought it does have a cam. I have been in the car though and it blew away my old z which was stock. Other then that i really do not know what to tell you. Does it seem like a good deal though for 7500? and if i was to get it what should i do to it. Oh and it has about 56k miles on the engine and he recently rebuilt the tranny. It also has a short shifter clutch. The original motor had 141k but he swapped it. here is some pics of the inside so you guys can see a little more of it and see if it is worth 7500.http://tinypic.com/r/b4dkiv/5 http://tinypic.com/r/23ldylw/5

Unless he has at LEAST a cam-swap, he's full of BULL**** if he says that he's making 430 to the wheels OR to the motor.

$7500 is overpriced for a lightly modded 99. I sold my modded 98 Z28 in my sig for $5500 and that was with a new motor and VERY nice mods that made serious power.

If he's making anything around 430rwhp, his car should sound like my old car that I sold for $5500.

alright, thank you its hard to tell but next time i talk to him i will tell him i want to take it to a dyno. But 5500 for that sounds like an amazing deal. Do you know a site where i could find a similar deal? Sorry i ask so many questions but i am 17 and i am somewhat inept when it comes to cars.

Honestly if you're 17, buy an unmolested LS1 F-body -- if something goes wrong with a modded one, you're going to be up ****'s creek.

Light mods like exhaust and intake and even headers are ok, but I'd stay away from modded ones that add more power than that.

thank you i found a lot of nice cars on the for sale on this site, but i do realize i could get screwed but i love fast cars. It is also a goal of mine to get another z after mine got totaled by getting rear ended. I am not planning on street racing or anything i just appreciate the power of the car. Like i am sure everyone else does on this site.

It would need Head and Cam work to touch 430 to the wheels. Intake and Full Exhaust (long tubes, exhaust system) won't be enough to get you anywhere close to that. You're not going to be able to tell this by visually looking at the engine. It will still look stock. You need to ask him what he's done to it.

Yeah, I would want to know what cam/heads he has to get 430rwhp. If he doesn't have heads you would need a ball buster cam (IE TREX) or the sort to hit that power and you would know if it had that cam when you drove it.

A small cam / heads could hit that power... but to be honest what person does H/C and uses the stock airbox?

Something seems fishy. Maybe he's saying he has 430fwhp, but that would still be a stretch.

If he can't provide a mod list I would move on.

I wouldn't buy any car like this if the owner isn't willing to fess up all the mods and specs. Nothing sucks worse than not knowing what exactly has been done to a car because you're left guessing on everything. In the long term it can cost you more money. I have just such a project in my driveway now, but I was willing to accept that risk based on the great price I got. If he's not willing to give you details, there leaves a chance that he's holding out dark secrets you DON'T want to find out later.

Words of wisdom said here. Not a good idea to buy a used customized(you really don't know whats inside till it breaks down and your mechanic asks you if you have lots of money to correct things).I would buy stock.Myo2Been been been there there there .Beer time.
