subframe connector install botched

On Friday I had boxed subframe connectors welded in on my 300 mile 2002 Z28. Instead of following the written instructions and my verbal reminder to center the front flat portion of the connector to the subframe so it could be welded on the front and both sides, they aligned the connectors with the inner rocker panels. Now the connectors are offset to the outside of subframes and could only be welded on the inside and front half of connectors so I lost half my weld area. This was a high dollar shop specializing in Vipers, Vettes and Camaros. Incompetence at a high dollar. Do any of you out there know of a race car fabrication shop in the central Florida area that could repair this damage? Thanks in advance.

I have had the same worries myself. I'm installing some BMR's the winter break, and Frank (super guy to work with) recommended a shop near Tampa airport. I'll find the name if you are interested. When you said boxed I assumed you were talking about bmr?

I don't want to encourage talking bad about a good shop, but who was it? Daytona or Orlando?

The shop I went to was on north side of Orlando. I could not
find a shop with drive on lift in Daytona Beach that had done the BMR boxed subframe install. This shop had a 99 SS up in the air
on a lift for a rearend rebuild with BMRs welded on it off center
like mine ended up. Before he started on mine I called the tech over and told him the instructions called for the front end of connector to be centered so it could be welded on all 3 sides of subframe.
He said another shop was responsible for that welding job and he would do it right but mine ended up offset just like the 99's. Now I need someone who can cut off the useless overhang,
weld that side and then weld in another piece to inside of
originals and to originals so that the load is spread over a larger area. Knowing what I know now I would drive to Tampa to BMR recommended shop if I could do it over. Too many people talk a good game and charge big so be careful who you choose. I can't believe there isn't a chassis fabrication shop within driving distance.

yikes

There is another post on here, I'm sure you all saw it talking about bolt-ons. This is probably a discussion that will never end. Sure in the long run welding is the way to go, but a least bolt ons get installed correctly! I don't have a pair yet so maybe I can't argue this. I'm just trying to make the right choice.

my only worry might be between bolt-on SFC's and welded ones is the possibility that if you need to do something else to the bottom of the car, either dealing with exhaust pipes or whatever, if you have DD SFC's might they get in the way? and if so, would undoing and redoing the weld be practical? that's mainly why i might consider bolt-on SFC's even though i would prefer to weld them....my .02 cents.

Funny, that shop was just recommended to a friend of mine by a deputy. The cop had put a 5.0 in a ranger and A and W did the exhaust. Friend of his.

What is the car club? I try to get over to the mall shows....shoot me an email. I do some part time work at the speedway, so I am in Daytona at least a couple of times a week....
