stock or not?

i replaced the pushrods, rocker arms, and valvesprings in my ls1 and i was wondering if the stock valvesprings come double coiled or not. the ones i took out were double coiled so im wondering if the previous owner already replaced these parts. thanks

Re: stock or not?

AFAIK, all LS1s came from the factory with single coil springs. My '00 had single coils.

Yeah, the factory springs (even LS6 springs) are the "bee-hive" type, and I'm pretty sure they're just a single coil? If you had dual coil springs in there (and especially if they're not the bee-hive shape) then they're obviously aftermarket. Are you sure that the cam is stock? Why else would someone go to the work and expense of changing just the springs? How about the rockers.....they stock?

Re: stock or not?

well i know for sure now that the rocker arms arent stock because i changed them but im not sure about before. as of now the pushrods, rocker arms, valvesprings, have been changed. i also have the SLP cold air kit w/ lid. stage 3 spec clutch, magnecor 8.5mm plug wires. i know im up close to 400 hp because ive ran z06's and only been pulled by about halr a car. what im gettin at is do you think im making those numbers off just those mods or is the car also cammed? i had one mechanic that builds race cars listen to my car and tell me it wasnt cammed right off the bat......so im really not sure. how can i find out for sure?

If this is all the mods you have done and you are hanging with vettes, you probably got a cam, or you got a beast of a motor.

this is all jsut my opinion and thoughts on the subject, but he problaby builds old time small blocks and when you put a cam in they get lumpy. there have been a lot of updates in technology and seems the newer motors you can put in a decent cam and make good power and still tune it to be very smooth and almost unnoticable to people listening for the motor to be 'camming'.

example...say a stock ls1 puts out 320HP. take a 75 350 and get it to 320HP...it's problaby gonna be a bit lumpy since stock it put out 175Hp and you almsot doubled it. now you could have jsut put a small cam in it and bumped it from 175 up to 200 and not be real noticable. which would be the same as putting a cam in the ls1 and bumping it up to 350-360Hp maybe....which is a very good gain but still be smooth....you could get 400+ with other mods and still be smooth. or now you bump it up to 400+ with a cam alone and it's gonna get lumpy.

again i'm jsut rambling thoughts out of my head on how I see it.....I havent built an engine to make that kind of HP or have any facts to prove it...jsut done some reading here and there....jsut a half educated rambling.

Re: stock or not?

i see what your sayin.......i could be up around 400 with all the mods i know i have and be mildly cammed. thats what i am coming to think because i cant be showin those kinda numbers without at least a mild cam. im planning on getting a more aggressive cam sometime soon anyways so when i do that ill let yall know exactly what i had in there before. thanks for all the help guys.

Re: stock or not?

The stockers are all single coils. If they have a blue mark on them they are the LS6 springs. I believe the LS6 springs are bee-hive. I read an article about it in GMHTP.
