stock gears replaced at 22,500 miles

I had to have the gears replaced on my 2002 Z28 at 22,500 miles. I can't believe they went bad so soon. Anybody else have a similar experience?

When I picked the car up, I asked the service guy if I needed to take it easy for a certain number of miles until they break in.
He said, "no, they're pretty stout."

My response was, "Oh, you mean like the last ones?"

He just looked at the ground and said, "yeah."

That would have been the previous owner. I bought mine used and only have a few hundred miles on it.

Thanks

Gears take their final set to each other once you start driving them. Whenever I install gears, I take it for a short drive, then park the car and let it cool completely, then I take a little longer drive, cool it down again. After that I take it easy for a couple hundred miles and consider them broken in.

Yeah. Gears aren't properly broken in until around 500 miles. So take it easy until then. Break in is very important to gear life.
