Question Stock air assembly Mod, CAI

First off, I'd like to say this is my first post. So Hi everybody, Anyway, has any other Z28 or TA owner ever decided to enlarge the stock opening of the air intake below the lid? I was told it would be a slight help..I think its worth something. I cut the plastic with my dremel drill, opening the intake almost an extra inch over stock.

Anybody ever applied a Cold air kit such as SLP on top of this mod??? I was curious because all the Cold air manuf. suggest blocking off the stock air opening with the sealing gasket. I guess Its nessesary to apply direct pressure to the intake.

Anyone see a problem with NOT sealing the gap on the intake and just letting Air come in from both below the car and inside the engine as well??

Thanks,

Justin

Welcome to the board. The only problem is you dont want heat soaked air from you engine bay going in your air intake.

I have the SS hood (cause i have an SS) But i was thinking about getting this also... I wanted to get the SLP kit http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=21047
which is the whole system and includes everything. would this be beneficial to me (since you have to close off the stock air inlet) or would it be better to just leave it open and have the air coming in from 2 places?

Get the original...a Fast Toys Ram Air setup and an aftermarket lid such as a Direct Flo, and put in a Holley powershot filter. Preddy at Fast Toys may be a sponsor here and you could hook up on a group purchase. If not, check out LS1.com

Dont worry about the filter if you want max HP.. your paper one out flows the aftermarket ones.. The aftermarket ones filter BETTER but restrict airflow...

Thanks for the welcome, but I didnt mean to start a war on the best CAI and Raim Air kits. I just used SLP as an example. Anyway since I've already cut away at my factory intake, and it cant be sealed easily, will it be worthwhile to add a Ram Air kit with the warm engine air coming in as well??

One other thing, Does anybody know if a CAI-RA setup will dirty your air filter as quick as a FRA mod? I thought maybe since the kits are angeled and not a straight open whole it wont be as bad for dirt and little rocks to enter the filter....I could not believe how much crap got in my filter after one week (after opening the bottom of the air box up), the few horses didn't seem worth the added mess to me. So I glued the plastic back in place.

Thanks again

-Justin
