Starting to Mod for the Spring

There has been alot of cars coming out recently with big power, and I dont want to get embarrassed by anyone at the light, especially those new Stangs. So I ordered LT headers and borla exhaust. Hopefully next month I can throw in a bigger cam and Z06 intake manifold. Think that will keep most competition in the rear view.

Absolutely....with all those mods you should hit close to if not 400rwhp (depending on our cam). I would also do 4.10s. You'll kick butt from light to light

Not sure what cam i'm going to go with yet, still researching. Thinking a mild cam around 224-226 or so. Sounds like the hot cam may be a good fit, considering I dont want to have to practically rebuild my engine for a monster cam.

Hotcam is junk. Doesn't make power and idles/drives worse than cams that are much larger than it is. Call Futral Motorsports up His cams make tons of power and idle VERY nicely.

What new Mustang? The Shelby?

I hope you aren't talking about the super slow 05 Mustang GT.

Re: Starting to Mod for the Spring

I thought the new Stangs are capable of low 13's with a few mods

If I do end up going up the FM Cam, what upgrade package do you recommend:

1)Comp 26918 Springs, FMS Hardened Pushrods

2)Comp Titanium Retainers to Comp 26918 Spring Package

3)Manley Dual Drop In Springs, Manley Titanium Retainers, Manley Seats, Intake/Exhaust Valve Stem Seals, FMS Hardened Pushrods

4)Precision Race Components Dual Valve Spring Kit, FMS 7.400" Chromemoly Pushrods

I want to do this right and not have to worry about something breaking, so i'm guessing option 3. And how much more power do you see with this cam over the hotcam.

Re: Starting to Mod for the Spring

I'd run a dual spring and a hardened pushrod simply for the fact that you won't have to worry about your springs for a while. The PRC's will be fine, I haven't heard any compaints about them. I am running Crane Duals with a 7.400 pushrod, only using the longer pushrod because the valves used in Absolute Speed 5.3's are longer. As far as the power gain over the hotcam, my roomate originally had the hotcam and did 381rwhp. Going to the FM11 cam only he went to 409rwhp and got a MUCH better idle and driveability out of it. If I were you, I'd go with the FM13, it idles the same as the FM11 and makes about 6-8rwhp.

The new 05 GT's are in between the 99-04 GT and the 03-04 Mach1.

So in other words, they are nothing to worry about.

The FM 13 is - 230"/232" .595"/.585" 114LSA That seems like it should be very rough.
