ss vs z

I mean, consider a vaccum cleaner, with a long hose extension. If you put some bends in the vaccum hose, does it affect the vaccum cleaner's suction? Not all that much.
The same would apply to an SS hood I believe. Perhaps the SS hood doesn't start flowing well until it reaches higher speeds due to the rather large ductwork of the hood.

At least the SS hood has the air going to the air intake. Some cars have a piece of plastic blocking air from even entering the hood*cough*MUSTANG!

Maybe somebody (me?) could make a few passes and then seal off the intake on the hood and try again and see if there is a difference.

Dont know if you guys are interested in autocrossing but...
A WS6 or SS car is in the BS class stock. Your competitors are the Porsche Boxter S, Honda S2000, the Porsche 911 NA, Nissan 300ZX NA , Supra NA, the 99+01 Cobras (I think) , and a number of significantly lighter and/or shorter wheelbase cars with simlar power to weight ratios. Remember on a handling based course your 3500lb car's brute acceleration cannot always be used to overcome its shortcomings. I have heard the SS is usually in the bottom of its class stock for stock with equal drivers.
On the the other hand, any V8 car that came with 16" wheels stock (Z28, Formula, T/A) is in class FS with the 5.0/4.6 SN 95 mustangs, and a number of "more equal" cars.
After driving both, the added suspension bits dont do much in handling characteristic, but get you placed way up class wise.
Once you modify your car you are out of the stock class anyhow, but you will always be "pushed up" for having that initially "more competant" platform.
